How To Make Gifs out of Videos

Many people still wonder how to make gifs taken from videos. I made a deep research. There are many tricks, but they don't work for everyone. I hope this one works for you. It's not easy at all and you have to draw all your attention to this tutorial. You will have to work with two programs. Youtube Downloader and Photoshop.

Improve your Photoshop Performance

Honestly I don't know if this trick really works or not. Since my PC runs fine (cause let's say I know how to organize it :p), it doesn't matter what I do everything will always be okay.

Although, I learned this little trick I've never heard anyone talking about and I'd like to share it with you, so you could tell me then if it worked for you or not.

If your Photoshop runs in a Heavy way, you might want to change the definitions and make it occupy less space in your RAM Memory. That would be awesome, right?

So, let's get it started :)

It's a easy trick, so you can learn it easily and then teach other people.

1. Open Photoshop.

2. Go Edit » Preferences » Performance...

4. A new window will come up and there will be this blue/white bar. The blue means how much space Photoshop occupies in your RAM Memory. If your RAM Memory is 1GB, then your pc must be really really slow. I guess that you can barely run it, right? If it's 2GB like me and it's slow, then it might be sharing space with other heavy services and processes/programs.

5. Anyway, Wherever the blue is, you drag the bar down, until you think it's the space Photoshop is supposed to run in your pc (don't put 0 or really low values or Photoshop will run very very little options - You won't even be able to go to Preferences window again!!! Just set it around 800MB, if you think it's fine for you, according your RAM space :)) - Like This:

History States and Cache Levels

The last part.

History States are the amount of the steps of the things you do on a single work that you want to save on Photoshop. To explain you better, here goes a pic. :)

- Since I opened the image, Photoshop saved all the steps. Even if I undo something, it will save "Undo...". The more history states you save, the heavier Photoshop might get. Although, if you want your Photoshop light and run a couple history states, like me, save until 100. I'm saving 75 right now.

- The Cache levels are 6 by nature. In that window, there's also a tip about what every little window means:

» History States: Maximum number of history states to retain in History Palette.
» Cache Levels: number of Cached Levels in image data. Used to improve screen redraw or histogram speed. Choose more cache levels for better speed, or less Cache levels for better quality.

So, you're done :)

But if it's still slow, you should look for tips on the net. THIS ONE is the best I could find. It works with everyone. But use it consciently!

How to Open Brushes and Actions

I showed you actions and brushes I made, but probably some of you don't know how to run them on Photoshop. It's easy.

1. Download the brush you want. It might come in .zip OR .rar format (if it doesn't skip to step 2), which means it's compacted. Go to the directory of the compacted file and open the folder.

2.Then extract the brush to the folder (I usually do it this way):
Computer » Program Files » Adobe » Photoshop CS3 » Presets » Brushes
NOTE: Everytime you download a brush you MUST extract it to that folder, so you save all your brushes there, without the risk of forgetting their directory or just delete them by mistake.

3. Open Photoshop. Select the Brush Tool and then you must click the little button on the upper menu, to see the options for the brush:

4. Once you click the little button, you will see another menu with a few options. Select this one:

5. A folder will open up to let you choose what you want. Don't forget to choose the directory where you saved them: Program Files » Adobe » Photoshop CS3 » Presets » Brushes. Voilà! There you have your brushes :) - Now have fun with them! --

Actions

First of all: What are actions?
- Actions are files that have information about filters and other tools used in Photoshop, made by someone, that you can use them yourself without repeating all the boring steps throughout a tutorial. Example: I may use the filter Gaussian Blur » Levels » Brightness/Contrast, and keep all that information of the things I did to an image in a single file. That file is called ACTION. I can save it so I can repeat it in other images, without having to learn it by heart or keep the information somewhere. It's amazing, isn't it?
1. Follow the same steps as with brushes until step number 2. But instead of saving them in brushes folder, you must save it in Actions folder, durr :)

2. In Photoshop do: Window » Actions - There must appear a new window. That's the actions window.

3. In action window there's this little button:

4. Inside that little button there must be this little menu, and you will select Load Action:

5. A folder will open up to let you choose what you want. Don't forget to choose the directory where you saved them: Program Files » Adobe » Photoshop CS3 » Presets » Actions. And you're done!

Vector Brushes

I'm not good with brushes. At all. But I made two vector brush packs a few months ago and I'd like to share them with you. These versions were made for Adobe Photoshop CS3 & higher. So these brushes won't work in older versions. I'm sorry :[ - I think you can try though.

What a good way of starting this blog. Yesterday I made my first Photoshop Action pack for those who want to have their works a little bit more colourful. I'm still a bit new into Actions but I hope you like it.

There's also another action I made, but it's only one, although it has a nice dreamy effect on pictures. Still I have to tell you a tip.

So, the tip is:

1. Before you play the action, you must reset the colours palette. Do this pressing D on your keyboard.

I'm asking you this, because this action will use the filter "Diffuse Glow" and this filter uses the background colour on the palette to use as glow. If you background colour were black you would have a black glow, instead of a white one.
